Weekly Wrap Up - Watch With Me
04 Apr 2017
Looking outside on this cold, snowy Spring day makes us want to cuddle up with some hot cocoa and watch a movie with a friend. Ironically today could be the perfect day for it, as Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is out now. Need a friend to keep you company without eating all your popcorn? We’ve got the perfect companion for you: BB-8.
That’s right, now you can share your laughter, tears and a few beeps with your favorite Astromech Droid by your side as you both watch Rogue One using the BB-8 App. Just connect your Droid to the app using our new Watch With Me feature and see how BB-8 reacts to the movie just as you do.
Only maybe with a few more beeps and a few less tears.
A Day In The Life: Dave Hygh
Q. Good morning. Mind telling us your name and title here?
A. Dave Hygh, Principal Engineer.
Q. And what do you do at Sphero everyday, Dave?
A. I design the electronics and firmware for prototype robots and other fun stuff here.
Q. All the fun things. What advice can you impart for other engineers looking for fun stuff?
A. Always be in learning mode, and also be hands on. I've learned a lot from trying things and making mistakes.
Q. Can’t wait to hear what you’re working on! Or is it super secret?
A. I work on new prototype products, so yup, super secret.
Q. *Sigh* moving on—what aspect to you enjoy most about working at Sphero?
A. I get to design new toy robots and play with new technologies. It's exciting and humbling to see what I helped make sitting on store shelves.
Q. Do you have a favorite bot of ours you see on those shelves?
A. SPRK+. I really like the clear shell so kids can see all the parts that make it work. And I truly enjoy seeing something I worked on help children learn more about science and technology.
Q. Like engineering future engineers, AMIRIGHT? Anyways, what are your favorite things do to outside work?
A. I love traveling with my wife to new places, seeing different cultures and ways people live. I've burned up a lot of my vacation days overseas, [if] anyone cares to donate some to me.
Q. I’m sure everyone is checking their calendars. What do you love most about living in Colorado?
A. The people, unpredictable weather, spectacular scenery and correcting people about how Denver is not in the mountains.
Q. Thank you for setting them straight. Anywhere you recommend us checking out?
A. The Rocky Mountain National Park is amazing, with so many different parts to it. Take a hike to one of the many lakes, or drive on Trail Ridge Road. It's the highest continuous paved road in the US at over 12,000 feet.
Q. RMNP is always a good time. Ok, last question: What little unknown fact can you share about yourself?
A. A few years ago I was an official/referee for a women's roller skating team, The Denver Roller Dolls. I was ref'ing for a couple of seasons. You'll have to ask me what my derby name was...
