Weekly Wrap Up - CSEd Week
06 Dec 2016
It’s here—our favorite week of the year. Have you been practicing? Fingers warmed up like they’re in a new pair of mittens? Mind sharp as the icicles collecting underneath your rooftop gutter? Even if you live in a balmy part of the world, change all those wintry-similies to something with a paper umbrella and come join us as we celebrate Computer Science Education Week.
Last night we kicked off the week for an evening of code at Red Hawk Elementary school in Erie, Colorado. With SPRK+s in hand, students and their parents piloted our bots through mazes on our Lightning Lab app, the Sphero app for programming Sphero robots. Kids (and not kids) are able to learn the foundations of basic coding through a simple drag-and-drop interface, plus they can progress to full blown text programming when they've mastered the blocks.
Bummed you missed out last night? There’s plenty more where that came from. And by plenty, we mean two. You can join just this afternoon from 4:00 - 5:30PM at the Bould Public Library, or on Saturday, December 10th from 10AM - 2PM.
So in celebration of CSEd Week—or to warm up your fingers this winter—come on down, grab a bot and code.
A Day In The Life: Susan Osborne
Q. Hi, there. Let’s start this thing off by telling us your name and title here.
A. I'm Susan Osborne, Payroll & AP Manager here at Sphero.
Q. And what do you do at Sphero everyday?
A. I crunch numbers, bug people for stuff...and spend a great deal of money.
Q. Sounds like a pretty sweet gig. What advice can you offer for those looking into the same thing?
A. Don't do it! Actually, if I was going to give one piece of advice, I would say if you are going to do accounting, do it in a start-up/creative environment!
Q. Any top-secret projects you’re working on these days?
A. No top secret projects in my world. As long as payroll gets done, life is good.
Q. HEAR! HEAR! Besides making all of us happy, what else do you enjoy about working at Sphero?
A. By far the people...and the gallon size tubs of Twizzlers.
Q. So which of our bots is your favorite?
A. I'm partial to Sphero because it's simple and started it all.
Q. So what do you enjoy doing outside of work?
A. I love to write. I had a blog for three years that I sold and now I'm planning my next writing adventure (a screenplay maybe??). I also read a ton of personal development and business books. When I'm not doing that I'm watching a lot of movies with my family.
Q. I’ll definitely catch up with you later about blogging tips. What do you love most about living in Colorado?
A. Just about everything.
Q. UGH, well, said. What’s a favorite go-to spot?
A. I love happy hour at Brasserie Ten Ten, but mostly I eat take-out on my couch. I kind of like hanging out there.
Q. No argument there. Ok, to wrap this up, what detail can you share about yourself most of us don’t know?
A. I'm more right brain than left brain and can make a mean tequila shot.
